Find Prescreened Professionals

In modern construction, drywall is present in just about any structure that has walls. Inexpensive and quick to install, as a building material, drywall has little competition. However, where there's drywall, there's the possibility of drywall damage. Especially vulnerable to excessive moisture and hard impacts, many homeowners know the score when it comes to what drywall can and cannot handle.

When drywall becomes damaged, there are two common routes taken by homeowners to fix the problem: hire a professional or do the job themselves. Both have their benefits and drawbacks. If you need drywall repair, there are a few things to consider before you choose which path is right for your situation.

Hiring a Pro for Drywall Repair in San Diego
Obviously, the biggest drawback to paying for professional San Diego drywall repair is the labor cost. Though the materials needed to fix most drywall problems are relatively inexpensive, in southern California, it's the rare person who wants to add another bill to the already high cost of living. There are a few things to take into account, however, before you do the job yourself.

A San Diego drywall repair specialist will likely be able to complete any job you have to give him or her faster and better than you can do the job yourself. In an out-of-the-way area such as a garage, this might not be a concern, but in a living room or kitchen, most homeowners prefer to have a project finished quickly and seamlessly. Hiring a contractor will not only save on time and effort (on your part, anyway), but they will bring all their own equipment and materials, too. This is of particular concern for homeowners who don't already have a shed full of the tools they will need at their disposal.

DIY San Diego Drywall Repair
Not much can replace the feeling of satisfaction a homeowner gets when they complete a home improvement project on their own. Saving a few bucks in the process is a nice perk, as well. If the damage to your drywall is something relatively minor, there are a wide variety of books, magazines, and other resources on the market that can aid you in this project.

When it comes to extensive damage (say, a burst pipe has turned a large portion of a wall into mush), the DIY route should probably be handled only by homeowners with a background in such work. Though you're sure to be able to find instructional videos and TV shows, creating a seamless and continuous finish for a major drywall repair is a bit more difficult than the pros make it seem. At the very least, an eager DIY should take a little time and practice doing this work on a piece of scrap or in an out-of-the-way area before attempting to tackle a job in the dining room.

The Benefits of Handyman Services
As a lot of the cost of drywall repair comes from labor, it may be a good idea to call a handyman service instead of a drywall specialist for a smaller job. Many homeowners find that a local handyman can tackle several small projects in only a few hours, leaving your home that much better off in a single day; and, possibly saving you money by reducing the number of visits it would require to hire several different service providers.

Prices of San Diego Drywall Repairs
Depending on the company you hire and the size of your drywall repair, San Diego residents can pay anywhere from $200 to $1,300 (with many jobs coming in at $600 or $700). DIY prices will, naturally, be far less. The national average cost of hiring a handyman for multiple projects is less than $500, which is on par with the figures we have for the San Diego area.
