Electricians can be very expensive, and combined with the fact that hiring an electrician is typically a grudge purchase, consumers generally experience sticker shock with their electrician's bill. However, there are several ways to get the most value for your money. The following can help you save money on your next electrical call:

Before you call:
Compare hourly rates of several electricians.

Make a list of electrical problems.

Group electrical problems together and make one call.

Consider skill and experience over a cheaper hourly rate. Having an inexperienced, inexpensive electrician who doesn't fix the problem correctly can require you to call a second electrician. Avoid those mistakes by hiring quality first.

Preventative Tips:
Have your electrician wire in more power, even if you don't currently need it. If you plug in another TV or computer, most likely you won't consider how hard it's working your electrical main or if you even have the power. If you have extra, this won't be an issue.

If there are updates that are possible for your electrical main, have your electrician perform them. Many dangerous things can happen with old wiring.

Ideas to Consider:
If you are available, ask your electrician questions before he leaves or while he has some down time. Seek his advice on things you can do to avoid shorts, electrical failures, electrical fires and other electrical problems.
